Hackettstown had a wood passenger station, which survived
at least until 1966. A three stall brick engine house with a 54' turntable
was torn down prior to 1917. There was a stock yard opposite the station
as well as a freight station with a separate agent. Track scales were
removed between 1902-17. Nearby industries included Coal, feed mill
bulk oil, lumber dealers. The original roundhouse burned down December
21, 1857.
New Jersey Transit extended service on the Boonton Line
8.9 miles from Netcong to
Hackettstown on October 31, 1994. Although plans of extending passenger
service to Washington
and beyond have been expressed, nothing much has been done to my knowledge.
